What is a Therapy Dog?

A therapy dog is a specially trained canine that offers emotional support and comfort to people in various settings, unlike service dogs that assist individuals with specific disabilities, therapy dogs provide a generalized sense of well-being and affection to those they interact with.

Therapy dogs have found to help in settings such as, but not limited to:

Schools: Therapy dogs can be part of programs designed to reduce stress and anxiety among students. Their presence has been shown to create a calming atmosphere, which can positively impact students’ emotional well-being and in turn academic performance.

Speech Therapy: Interacting with a dog during therapy sessions can help reduce anxiety and increase engagement in children, making it easier for the child to practice and improve their communication skills.

Special Education Classrooms: Therapy dogs can be valuable tools to enhance the learning experience for students with diverse needs. Their calming influence can help create a conducive environment for learning and self-regulation.

School Reading Sessions

We work closely with each school and individual class teacher to ensure that each and every reading session is not only educational and fun but also matches the reading level of your class. We can even theme the reading sessions to make sure it ties in with your curriculum or current topic.

Each and every reading sessions takes place in a quiet area, such as a class room, library or school hall. During the 30-minute session, each child has a chance to read to our dog. The child will be given a page or pages to read, during this time the child will not be interrupted or corrected, but at the end of each child’s session we may ask questions as agreed or directed by the class teacher.

One To One Sessions Aka "Smile Sessions"

Some of our clients work better at home or on a one to one basis. We offer flexible approaches and can work with class teachers, parents or individuals to tailor “Smile Sessions” sessions according to needs and ability. Our team will carry out a 30-minute private session at school, at home or the location best suitable.

The focus of these sessions is creating happiness! Our dogs have their own ways to reach out to people’s hearts.

Animal- Assisted Intervention:

A goal-directed intervention in which an animal that meets specific criteria is an integral part of the treatment process. For example, teaching commands to a therapy dog can create opportunities to build social skills of children with Autism.

AAT works well with children with autism, ADHD, PDD and any emotional and/ or behavioral issues. It can help individuals achieve physical, social, educational and motivational goals. We supply the dog (together with handler) for the therapy session in coordination with the therapist and respective clinic.

Ready to train with The Pawkeeper?

The dogs had such a wonderful play. It’s the first time and I’ve honestly just been able to release that breath I hold every time they are near each other. Thank you for the guidance to get us to this first play.

Her responsiveness went from zero to reliable. We’re able to pass stray cats without a meltdown. You showed me a positive approach to training, it’s not a chore but a lifestyle now. I don’t have to use “NO” anymore because I have different ways now which has made my relationship with Skye so much better.

We can’t thank Jasmin enough for her shared knowledge, expertise and force free techniques. With Jasmines shared techniques and continued support, we are now able to redirect Teddy’s unwanted behaviors and encourage positives.Thank you Jasmin for understanding the stresses and difficulty of adopting a dog that has not had the best start in life and not judging the helplessness and despair that we were experiencing.

Thank you for bringing back my dog. Dog encounters, people encounters, perfect walkies, chilling at home, increased alone time. Oh the times of reactivity when I was at the end of my rope and desperate are hard to remember
